The 570S Coupe is about as affordable as it gets for a McLaren – starting at around £135,000. In terms of rivals' pricing, that will position it between the Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S.

Images of the new car have been revealed ahead of the New York Motor Show which begins on April 1. The pictures appear to be high quality computer generated images, so many will be eager to see the car 'in the flesh' in a month's time.

While 'entry-level' is a bit of a stretch for this supercar manufacturer, the 570S now means McLaren offers three tiers of car, with the Super Series (650 S and derivatives) as the middle range and the and Ultimate Series (P1 hybrid supercar) constituting the upper tier – with price tags to make the even the wealthiest baulk.

But the 570S is by no means a slow car. Its mid-mounted, 3.8-litre V8 delivers 562bhp and will accelerate to 62mph in just 3.2 seconds. It can hit 124mph in 9.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 204mph.

While the engine is based on the 750S, the sports car maker says nearly a third of the car's components are completely new. A seven-speed, dual-clutch SSG gearbox drives the rear wheels.

The 570S delivers 25.5mpg on the EU Combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 258g/km.

The 570S is as close to a McLaren ‘runabout’ as you're likely to get, with easier entry and exit compared to pricier versions and an overall emphasis on practicality. Supporting this aim, the car boasts 150 litres of front luggage space – so it won't be any trouble at all taking a trip to ASDA – or should we say Waitrose?
