A startrescue.co.uk story...

AMG, the high performance division of Mercedes-Benz, will begin delivering its all new V8 sports car, the GT, to the UK in April of 2015.

At its heart will be a 3,982cc twin turbocharged V8, which in the standard GT will provide 462bhp with the GTS version offering 510bhp.

The GTS will be able to hit 62mph from standstill in 3.8sec, offer a top speed of 193mph, deliver 30.1mpg and emit only 219g/km of CO2. The more basic GT version will boast still-impressive stats of 0-62 in 4.0secs, 189mph top speed, 30.4mpg and 216g of CO2 per km.

Compared to the outgoing SLS, which costs around £189,000, the new GT will be significantly more affordable. Since Mercedes-Benz has mentioned the Porsche 911 Turbo price bracket, it is likely to cost around £100,000-£110,000, while a cheaper version, perhaps around £65,000-£75,000, will be available sometime in 2015.

The GT won't feature those impressive SLS gullwing doors though, but on the plus side it also won't guzzle fuel – so all round it’s going to be a cheaper way to enjoy a very high performance car.

In terms of styling, the stretched bonnet might be a little too much if it wasn't for the attention-deflecting wing vents, while the rear has perhaps been likened to that of the F-type a few too many times for the Mercedes-Benz purist.

However, the pedigree behind the GT and GTS is undeniable. We will certainly envy any of our breakdown cover customers who will be able to get their hands on one next year!
