What happens if you break down on your motorbike?

If you happen to require motorcycle recovery, our breakdown cover for motorbikes is on hand to help.

Once the breakdown is reported, Start Rescue will send out a motorbike recovery service patrol vehicle to repair the motorcycle at the roadside or transport it, if a repair is not possible.

It is important to buy breakdown cover for your motorbike which suits your requirements, so you need to understand which cover level is necessary for your needs.

Is Motorcycle recovery included in the breakdown cover?

All of our motorcycle breakdown cover policies include recovery as standard, if a roadside repair of your bike is not possible.

With our cheapest motorcycle breakdown cover – One Star - we will recover you to any chosen destination within a 10 mile radius from the scene of the breakdown., if you require recovery further than 10 miles we can offer a separate quotation to assist you.

Under or Two to Five Star levels of motorbike breakdown cover, if your bike cannot be fixed at the roadside or a local garage on the same day, we will arrange transport for you, your vehicle and the passengers to your home address, or, if you prefer and it is closer, to your original destination.

• your registered home address,
• across the UK and
• even throughout Europe with our European motorcycle breakdown cover.

Which type of motorbike breakdown cover is right for me?

There are five levels of motorcycle breakdown cover for you to select for your motorcycle, each including different features for different prices. This means you can choose something that fits your budget but also fits your personal motorbike breakdown cover requirements.

For example, if you want motorcycle breakdown cover in the UK that includes nationwide motorcycle recovery as well as roadside assistance, then levels Two through to Five can offer this.

If you wish to be covered for a breakdown in any vehicle in which you are travelling as well as for motorbike breakdown cover, you may wish to look at opting for a personal breakdown cover policy.

Am I covered if I’m riding pillion?

If the motorbike on which you are riding pillion is registered under your vehicle breakdown recovery policy, or you have a personal breakdown cover as opposed to motorcycle vehicle breakdown recovery, you will be covered for breakdown assistance on any aged motorcycle that you were riding pillion on within the UK.

Can I get European motorcycle breakdown cover?

Our motorbike breakdown cover policies have been designed to offer cover to suit the needs of a variety of motorcyclists, whether you are just looking for UK local or nationwide recovery, or also require European breakdown cover for your motorcycle.

With the higher level Four and Five Star breakdown cover for motorcycles, we can provide you with motorbike roadside assistance in Europe with our European motorcycle breakdown cover (provided that your motorcycle is under 10 years of age).

What’s more, Five Star motorbike breakdown cover includes theft, vandalism and illness protection.

What if I use my motorcycle for business?

If you use your motorcycle for business, you would be covered for breakdown recovery assistance on your motorcycle breakdown policy, with the exclusion of using your motorbike for courier / delivery services.

It is also not possible for us to cover any request for service your motorcycle is being used for motor racing, rallies, public hire, private hire, any contest or speed trial or practice for any of these activities. 

What are the costs of motorcycle breakdown cover?

Start Rescue’s bike breakdown cover and car breakdown cover policies have exactly the same levels of cover. It is simply the vehicle type that changes.

Can I add a bike to my existing breakdown policy?

If you already have an existing Start Rescue policy, you can receive 10% off when you add an additional vehicle, for example, adding bike breakdown cover to your policy via our Customer Lounge.
