A man who taught his five-year old son how to do burnouts has had his car towed.

Australian Alex Dobson filmed himself providing the unorthodox tuition to his boy outside his Queensland home.

In the videos, which have become a viral hit, smoke is shown billowing from the tyres of the stationary vehicle. The young boy is framed gripping the wheel as he is filmed by his father – who is not in the car with him.

It is not clear which, if any, laws have been broken, because the incident took place on private property.

The videos were posted to Facebook on September 21 with the line: "When your 5-year-old says... Dad, can I do a burnout? Sure son, no worries."

More than four million people have viewed one of the burnout videos, which prompted thousands of comments; some were amused and impressed by the stunt – others felt it was extremely dangerous.

"Guess who's doing a burnout? Go, go" Mr Dobson says.

"All by himself. Hell yeah, buddy. That's my boy."

"Look, there's no one in the car with you. High five."

What is a burnout?

A burnout is when a car’s brakes are applied fully at the same time as the accelerator. This results in the heavy friction on the tyres – and a burning or melting of the rubber.

On the 24th of September police impounded the modified vehicle, which Mr Dobson calls his "pride and joy".

Child protection officers have also been notified.

Mr Dobson has been taking his son to burnout competitions since he was born.

He told Australia's Nine Network: "He knows a hell of lot for a five-year-old child,"

"He's not your average five-year-old."

Mr Dobson regrets posting the videos to social media, “because of how far it's gone and the consequences".

However, he denied putting his son in danger.

He said: "No way would I ever put my child's life at risk."
