Most royals get from A to B in blacked-out Jaguars - but Prince William bucked the trend recently by hopping on a Triumph.

Last week the Duke of Cambridge visited Triumph Motorcycles in Leicestershire, East Midlands, for an event aimed at putting the spotlight on British vehicle manufacturing.

Later he arrived at the MIRA Technology Park in Warwickshire, where he eventually slipped on a helmet and hopped on Triumph's latest machine, the Tiger 1200.

The Prince's love of motorcycles is well known - him once having owned a 1199 Ducatti.

After his ride on the 1200 was over, William admitted it was ‘not long enough’.

However, rumour has it that his wife, Kate Middleton, is less fond of her husband's hobby. Once she reportedly said to a well-wisher in Scotland that she was filled with 'horror' by William's motorcycling.

She is reported as saying: ‘He’s still riding it. It always fills me with horror when he goes out on it.’

In one interview the prince explained that motorcycling allowed him to be anonymous.

‘It does help being anonymous with my motorcycle helmet on because it does enable me to relax,’ he explained.

‘But I just enjoy everything about motorbikes and the camaraderie that comes with it.’

However, last year his wife's safety concerns prompted him to give up motorcycling.
