Why have Home Emergency Insurance and Boiler Breakdown Cover

Nearly six in ten householders who buy a stand-alone Home Emergency policy will make a home emergency claim within one year (ICM Research) – you could be one of them! startrescue.co.uk provides a comprehensive package of covers through one policy; no need to take out separate policies through your water company for plumbing and drainage insurance and central heating services cover through your energy supplier.

Our experienced contractors and heating engineers deal with over 70 different central heating boiler manufacturers and over 4,000 boiler models! We offer Silver, Gold and Platinum cover levels which are dependent on the boiler breakdown cover that suits your needs best. The costs of home emergency issues can quickly spiral out of control, but with annual servicing and emergency boiler repairs the life of your central heating boiler can be extended reducing the risk of an expensive premature replacement.

What is Home Emergency Cover?

In a Which? Survey of 10,000 people in the UK, 48% had experienced problems with their boilers, with a third of the respondents who bought a boiler since April 2005 needing to have it repaired at some time after installation. The cost of the average combined buildings and contents home insurance policy was £310 in the first quarter of 2016, according to the Association of British Insurer’s Home Insurance Premium tracker. Buying Emergency Home Assistance separately allows you to smooth out the costs so that you don’t have to budget for the expense of your home insurance premium and Home Emergency add-on at the same time.

Setting up your Home Emergency Cover couldn’t be easier and faster with our secure online purchasing system. Take a look through our policy wordings and tell us about the home you wish to cover – buy a policy and you’re covered for the whole year! How do I make a Home Emergency claim?

An emergency in your home is never a pleasant experience and when you know you are covered for such an eventuality you want to fix everything as soon as you can. We’re here to make the process as easy on you as possible, so if you do need to claim at any point, you can just pick up the phone and call our 24 hour assistance centre on 0333 320 1156.

What is a Home Emergency?

Home Emergency Cover can mean different things to different people and it can get confusing when placed alongside home insurance. At startrescue.co.uk we think it is our responsibility to be as transparent as possible, so that our customers are fully aware of what’s covered in our policies right the way through their time with us.

We class a home emergency as a sudden event at your home which is unexpected and requires immediate action in order to make your home safe and secure, eradicate any health risk, avert damage or prevent additional damage to your home and re-establish the main services to your home.

What is an ‘Emergency Cost’?

The cost of an emergency is something that quickly comes in to focus once the emergency itself has been dealt with. Although you may have Home Emergency Cover with startrescue.co.uk, you will probably still want to be sure what exactly is covered in your insurance.

We want to make sure that you know exactly what is classed as an emergency cost so you have peace of mind with what you can claim for. Our emergency costs include the:

  • The call out charge of our approved contractor
  • The necessary labour costs of our approved contractor
  • Parts and materials
  • One night alternative accommodation in the event where we have agreed that your home is unfit to stay in

Will I have to pay the contractor?

The cost of the contractor will be paid by us, up to the amount shown on your policy schedule. However, before you pay out anything you must contact us for approval. If we do decide that it is best for you to find alternative accommodation for a night you will need to pay for this and claim it back.

What if my boiler can’t be fixed?

Your boiler works hard over the year to heat your home and provide hot water, which can put a lot of stress on your main heating system. Unfortunately boilers do breakdown and it will always happen at an inconvenient time. Our approved heating engineers will try their best to get the boiler up and running again, but sometimes it may not be able to be safely repaired.

Our Gold and Platinum cover levels include cover for your home’s main central heating system, which will include your gas boiler. If you have a boiler emergency and our approved contractor believes the boiler to be beyond economic repair, we will pay up to £250 towards the cost of a replacement boiler.

Do I need to service my boiler regularly?

We always recommend that you service your boiler on a regular basis. Not only does your boiler provide the warmth to your radiators on a cold winter night, it delivers hot water for your morning shower. Over cold periods your boiler is under a lot of strain and a boiler that hasn’t been serviced is more likely to suffer because of it.

In fact, if you have a Gold or Platinum level of cover you must provide us with evidence that you have had your boiler serviced in the last 12 months. However, our Platinum cover includes an annual boiler service carried out by an approved heating engineer, to ensure your gas central heating boiler is working as it should.
