A startrescue.co.uk story...

A teaser image has been released by Land Rover hinting at what the replacement for the Discovery will look like. The name at present is the Discovery Vision Concept.

Fans of the outgoing model will have to wait until the New York Motor Show on April 16 to get a proper look at the new 4x4.

The updated Discovery 'family' will also encompass the new Freelander, which will hit British roads in 2015, along with the Discovery itself.

The car's interior forms the focus of the teaser image, with a big central screen bearing a stylised motif of the new off-roader.

While definite details have not yet been released, it is thought that the Discovery will still have a seven-seat option, while the Freelander will be available in regular and stretched configurations.

Key to the new 4x4 line-up are the core Land Rover principles of “emotive design, unrivalled capability and ultimate versatility”.

The firm's Design Director Gerry McGovern said: "Discovery has been pivotal in helping to build the foundations of the Land Rover brand. It is admired all over the world and loved by its strong customer base."

The new vehicle will be launched 25 years after the first Discovery hit rugged landscapes around the world. It will slot into the 'leisure' category of Land Rover's vehicles, alongside the other two categories - 'dual purpose' (Defender) and 'luxury' (Range Rover).

Will the new Discovery be as tough and equally unlikely to prompt a call to their owners' breakdown vehicle recovery providers? We'll soon find out.
