A startrescue.co.uk story...

There are few areas of popular culture untouched by those glorious coloured bricks from Lego, but until now Formula 1 has (except for a few Schumacher-inspired sets) not been one of them. However, McLaren, Ferrari and Porsche have joined the likes of Star Wars and Harry Potter in lending their appeal to the children's toy.

There will no doubt be some big kids in the market for these new F1 inspired Lego sets; there will be a Ferrari F14T and a McLaren MP4-29 – both having featured in this year's championship. It's not all cars though. There will be a pit-stop set and a Ferrari transporter, too.

From the Porsche stable we will see plastic-brick versions of the 911 RSR and the 911 GT3 R Hybrid.

The teaser images suggest the boffins at Lego have done a great job of re-creating these thrilling vehicles, with decals and design details found on the real machines. The drivers wear authentic overalls and the sets are filled with other F1 details such as a tool box and a trophy.

With Star Wars and Harry Potter Lego sets having sold huge amounts, F1 and Lego will no doubt be hoping for similar success with their new tie-in.

Lego has released Ferrari/Schumacher-inspired sets before, but never the three top F1 brands.

We're sure the new F1 Lego sets will be snapped up very quickly by motorsport fans across the country – no doubt many of our annual breakdown customers among them. We just hope they leave a few sets for kids!
