OK, 'definitively' may be pushing it a little, but we think you'll find this list of the world's prettiest cars rather convincing. If you're annoyed that your Ford Fiesta isn’t featured, do let us know in the comments section!

10. Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

Good job this list isn't titled 'top 10 cars with most luggage space', because the 4C spider would be entirely absent from it. Tiny boot aside, this Alfa delivers classic sporty styling updated just enough not to be a pastiche of the brand's previous offerings. No other car looks remotely like this.

9. Maserati GranTurismo

The latest version of the GranTurismo once again combines muscularity and elegance in a way that Italian cars so often do. Whether cruising along the Amalfi Coast at sunset or zipping down the A12 for a meeting in Basildon, this car cuts a fine silhouette.

8. Ferrari 488 GTB

Essentially an update to the 458 Italia, the 488 GTB boasts suitably sculptured flanks and a large signature air intake, divided into two sections by a splitter. Are there prettier Ferraris out there? Probably, but you can count them on the head-rests of a shiny red Italian sports car (one that only has two seats).

7. Lamborghini Hurican

To some, it looks like an oversized PC mouse designed to prevent repetitive strain injury. To others, it’s the epitome of an aggressively beautiful Italian sports car. We reckon it’s the latter (although it would make a nice novelty mouse).

6. Porsche 911

Those curvy haunches! That subtly re-contoured classic tail! Those characterful yet slightly reptilian headlamps! The 911 has come a long way since its birth in 1963, yet has, perhaps unlike any other longevous model, maintained the essence of its original shape. One of the most refined sports cars money can buy - and undoubtedly one of the best-looking.

5. McLaren 675LT

You can have it painted beige, lime-green or fluorescent pink and this car will still look utterly fetching. The precocious offspring of the ground-breaking P1, the 675LT costs a lot less, and, if you ask us, is even easier on the eye.

4. Pagani Huayra BC

It's hard to believe that a car like this is actually road legal – but it is. Boasting a new front splitter, gigantic diffuser and a colossal rear wing, the Pagani Huayra BC is nothing if not unique. And when you get used to its unorthodox styling, you may join us in thinking that it is indeed beautiful.

3. BMW i8

This machine appears to have been sent back in time from a Munich of the distant future – yet you can buy one right now. Its super-leek, sci-fi looks are even more appealing when you discover that if you buy one, you won't have to pay the London Congestion Charge.

2. Jaguar F-type Coupe

Eye-pleasing proportions, muscular silhouette and a stance like a big cat priming itself for a kill – the F-Type is arguably what Jag lovers have been waiting for since the final E-type rolled off the lines in 1975. And unlike many other cars on this list, an entry-level version is within the financial grasp of many.

1. Aston Martin DB11

It's the car that will, probably, spell either success or failure for the 100-year old Aston Martin brand. But, if looks are anything to go by (and in the world of sports cars, they are), then the DB11 should shower the Gaydon-based marque with hard cash. With its outlandishly long bonnet, iconic front grille and powerful equine haunches, this is an Aston to savour – and surely one of the finest looking vehicles money can buy.
