Aston Martin have confirmed that it will be reviving the Lagonda sub-brand – best known for models such as the Series 2 of 1976.

But UK-based lovers of the straight-edged, retro luxury marque will be hard pushed to get hold of a new Lagonda – even if they have the requisite funds.

The planned model, a V12-powered four-door super saloon, will only be available to buyers in the Middle East – and only then by special invite.

Coming across a Lagonda in good condition is already a tough task, and it seems the news from Aston Martin will not make it any easier.

The new saloon will be a range-topper for the British sports car firm, sitting above the Rapide S model.

The company's current VH platform will form the basis of the new Lagonda – a design that has been found in nearly all Aston Martins for the last 13 years, beginning with 2001's vanquish V12.

As the image above demonstrates, the new Lagonda will take styling cues from the classic 1970s and 1980s models that made the brand so popular.

There were fears among Lagonda purists that the first Lagonda in years would be an SUV, but it now appears that the marque will be revived in the form of a saloon.

However, plans for a Lagonda SUV are still going ahead, according to the firm.

Are you one of our car breakdown cover customers with a love of Lagonda? What do you think of the image of the new design, subtle though it is?
